At Post Alarm, we’ve provided protection for local communities for more than 60 years. And with that experience comes the knowledge that a security system is only as good as the people our customers trust to monitor it. We take that trust very seriously.

We believe our people make Post Alarm special, and it’s our pleasure to shine a light on the motivated, intelligent, compassionate team members who make up the Post Alarm Family and provide the best possible protection to our clients.

Our June Employee Spotlight is Alicia Garcia, Central Station Manager. Alicia has been with Post Alarm for nearly 39 years. In her role, she oversees Post’s central monitoring station, trains operators, ensures all shifts are covered, and encourages her team to do their best work. Learn more about her story below!

How long have you worked for Post Alarm?

It’ll be 39 years in November. I got hired when I was 21 years old. I started off at the Pasadena branch on Arroyo with the parents when they were running the business.

What inspired you to pursue a career in security and public safety?

I always wanted to be a police dispatcher. I wanted to get the experience working for the alarm company—dealing with customers, dispatching calls, getting the experience on the radio, phone calls, listening to the client, be their voice, be their security pillow, and be there to make them feel good and that we’re here for them. I was just interested in doing that. So I got all the experience when I was learning from the company, and I just liked what I did. I went to classes for dispatching, as well, and knew this is what I wanted to do.

What does your day-to-day look like as Central Station Manager?

I make sure that all the shifts are covered and the workload is being done correctly. I also train operators to come on board—spending time with them, explaining to them why we’re calling the client, why we’re receiving these types of signals, and so on. We get low batteries, power loss signals, and I explain how to handle the alarms, the panic alarms, medical alarms, fire alarms, low temperature alarms—everything that we deal with.

I also make sure that their response time is very short and very efficient so they can handle the calls. Always act like it’s your family member’s alarm. How would you react? You would respond immediately. You’re not gonna sit there and just, oh, let that alarm sit up there, you know? You’re going to handle it right away because it’s a family member, so that’s always how we treat it. You see the alarm up there, grab it, pick it up, take care of it. Fast response, that’s my number one.

How does alarm monitoring compare to more basic security measures, like installing a security camera?

The difference is that when with our video monitoring, we look at the video. If we see something that is not right, we dispatch immediately. We’re on the phone with the police department, we’re letting them know the description, what’s going on, what’s happening, or even our patrol services. We dispatch them immediately to go out there. “Hey, there’s this guy out there dressed all in black, um, looking through the windows.” And we notify the agency that’s in that city also to let them know, “Hey, we have this person possibly trying to break into the home.”

After we dispatch, we’ll give the client a call and let them know what’s happening to stay inside the home for their safety and that if they feel good, we can stay on the line with them until the police arrive or patrol arrives for help. And then we try to make them feel comfortable that we’re there. Without monitoring, the homeowners can see the activity on their phone, look at it, and then by the time they call the police, they have to wait on hold. Sometimes they don’t pick up immediately. We have that interaction that we have it right then and there live and that we’re on the phone with the police letting them know what’s happening. I always say monitoring the videos, the cameras, you get a faster reaction and faster response to get someone out there to help.

What’s something people don’t realize about home security services?

I think a lot of customers sometimes feel like, “Oh, I don’t need an alarm system.” Sometimes we get some sales leads as well, and I’ll give them additional information: what we do, how we have a live operator here, we’re 24/7. It’s not a recording that you get; it’s a live person that you speak with. And we try our best to help you as fast as we can.

Besides having a local system where it only rings at the property, no one’s gonna respond to it unless they or a neighbor calls the police and tells them that there’s a ringing alarm at this property. The police dispatchers are gonna probably say, “Okay, we’ll send somebody out there when we can.” But here, it’s monitored… they’ll respond quicker because we’ll let them know, “Hey, we have a front door going off, a motion detector, a front door going, a back door alarm going off.” So we have different detections that we let the police know, and it causes a faster response for them to go out there because that could be somebody breaking in or something’s going on that needs attention. So it’s a quicker response.

The same thing as our patrol. We give them all the details, and they’re on their way out there to the property. And the difference is, between the patrol, we have communication that once they arrive, we have their arrival time, we have the better outcome of what’s going on, what they see, what’s the outcome, and we report that to the client, which they like because we tell them, “Hey, they found the open door. This is what’s going on. There was a dog on property,” et cetera. Compared to the police, who you have to call, and they just give you vague information. “Oh, the officer cleared it as a false alarm,” and that’s it.

That’s why sometimes I suggest, “Hey, if our patrol does do the area, it’s better for you to get the armed response because you’ll get more detailed information from the operator compared to the police response.”

So they think about that, and they go, “You know what? I never thought of it that way.” Then they can trial it, as well. Try our armed response and see if they like it.

What’s been your most rewarding moment on the job?

I feel great doing the job, getting the job done, and making sure that my staff is good. The morale is high in there. When it’s dispatching day or some other event we always have little treats for our staff in our department. We’ll have luncheons. So I always try to appreciate them because they do a good job, we’re the heartbeat of the company. We do everything. I send out that appreciation to my staff and tell them we got this. We can do this, you guys, even when there are days that we have power outages or if it’s raining, the weather is hot, you know. But we get through it, and we handle it, and we take care of it. We take care of business.

What do you enjoy most about working at Post Alarm?

They’re like my second family. I enjoy working, and I enjoy being here. I started here when Lois and Bill Post were running the company, and now it’s the kids, Rob and Gina. I really enjoy what I’m doing.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re off duty?

I like hanging out with my family and my kids. We’re a close family, and I enjoy being with them. I like going out and dancing. I’m a Lakers fan and like going to basketball games and watching them on TV.

Strengthen Your Home Security Before Vacation: A Southern California Homeowner’s Checklist

Key Points:

  • A home security checklist helps you strengthen your property’s security and deter opportunistic criminals before you leave for vacation.
  • Securing entry points, installing motion-activated lighting, and testing your home security system before you leave are all essential steps that prepare your home and give you peace of mind while you’re away.
  • Pairing a home security checklist with a professional security partner like Post Alarm significantly reduces the risk of criminal activity on or around your property.

Who doesn’t love summer vacation? Whether you’re going around the corner to Disneyland Park or traveling internationally for a couple of weeks, it’s always nice to get away. But leaving your Southern California home unattended comes with real risks—the kind that you want to address before you leave.

While the FBI’s 2025 Crime Data report shows that property crime is down 12.4% nationwide, it may not feel that way in high-crime areas in LA County. Criminal activity tends to spike in the summer when homeowners are away on vacation, making it all the more important to fortify your property before your trip.

This home security checklist covers everything from smart home tech to professional monitoring. No matter how long you’re away, these steps can make all the difference in keeping your home protected.

Start With the Basics: Securing Doors, Windows, and Entry Points

The very first step on your vacation checklist is to check every entry point in your home. Southern California homes—especially those with large sliding glass doors or detached garages—present unique vulnerabilities that need to be addressed before you leave.

Reinforce Front and Back Doors

  • Test all the locks and replace any that feel loose or worn.
  • Consider smart locks or keypad entry for remote access management.
  • Never leave a spare key under a mat or in an obvious spot that criminals could find; give one to a trusted neighbor instead.
  • Reinforce door frames, especially on older homes.

Lock Down Windows and Sliding Doors

  • Lock every window, including second-floor, bathroom, and basement windows.
  • Use window pins or secondary blocking bars on sliding glass doors.
  • Consider adding window sensors to your alarm system for enhanced detection.

Secure Your Garage and Side Gate

  • Strengthen your garage door security by identifying and addressing entry-point weaknesses.
  • Never leave a garage door opener in a parked car in the driveway; make sure it’s hidden and inaccessible.
  • Use a garage door lock or zip tie the emergency release cord to prevent bypass.
  • Padlock side gates and all fence access points leading to the backyard.

Use Lighting to Deter Burglars

When long summer days give way to darkness in hillside neighborhoods and on low-lit suburban streets, a well-lit home makes would-be intruders think twice. Lighting signals occupancy and makes for one of the most cost-effective deterrents against break-ins.

You don’t have to leave your lights on all day and night while you’re gone. Here are some alternatives:

  • Install motion-activated exterior lighting on your entry points, driveways, and backyards.
  • Place lights alongside yards and near gates.
  • Time your lighting schedules to reflect realistic evening routines.

Don’t Advertise That You’re Away

Burglars monitor social media and physical cues around a home to identify easy targets. Southern California homeowners—particularly in high-profile communities like Beverly Hills, Pasadena, and Pacific Palisades—should be especially mindful of what they post before and during a trip. Simply waiting until after you return to post vacation pictures can help keep your property safe.

Likewise, having a neighbor or friend pick up your mail and packages can help prevent criminals from realizing you are away. According to a USPS report, at least 58 million packages were stolen in 2024, resulting in about $16 billion in financial losses. In addition to having a trusted neighbor pick up your packages, you could also pause deliveries until you get back.

Avoid Oversharing on Social Media

  • Avoid sharing real-time travel photos, itineraries, or location tags until you’re back home.
  • Review privacy settings on all social accounts before departing.
  • Remind family members, especially children and teens, not to post vacation content in real time.

Keep Up Appearances Around Your Home

  • Pause mail and newspaper delivery, or ask a neighbor to collect them daily.
  • Arrange for someone to pick up packages to prevent porch pirate activity.
  • Ask a trusted neighbor to park in your driveway occasionally.
  • Keep your lawn watered and maintained if you’ll be away for multiple weeks. Dead grass or overgrown landscaping signals absence.

Leverage Smart Home Technology

Smart home technology gives Southern California homeowners real-time visibility into their property while traveling. From live video feeds to instant mobile alerts, connected devices let you keep an eye on your home from anywhere in the world. Here are some security features you may invest in:

  • Install a smart video doorbell with live view and two-way audio to monitor front-door activity.
  • Set up indoor and outdoor cameras with motion detection and mobile push notifications.
  • Use smart locks to remotely grant or revoke access to dog walkers, housekeepers, or neighbors.
  • Integrate all devices into a unified platform for streamlined monitoring and control.

Test Your Home Security System Before You Leave

Testing your security system a couple of days before departure gives you time to troubleshoot any issues and confirm that your monitoring company has everything they need to respond on your behalf while you’re gone.

  • Walk through and trigger each sensor of your security system to confirm it’s active.
  • Test your alarm’s battery backup to ensure it functions during a power outage.
  • Confirm your mobile app is connected and receiving real-time notifications.
  • Update your emergency contact list and travel dates with your monitoring provider.

Enlist Professional Monitoring and Patrol Services

While the above actions strengthen your home security measures, nothing replaces the assurance that comes with having trained professionals actively watching over your property. For Southern California homeowners planning extended trips, Post Alarm’s professional monitoring and patrol services provide a critical layer of protection.

Why Local Alarm Monitoring Matters

A local alarm monitoring service connects your home security system to a central monitoring station and provides real-time property surveillance and faster dispatch times than national call centers. A locally based team can make faster, more informed decisions when an alarm is triggered, quickly identifying real threats versus false alarms.

Post Alarm’s LA-based central monitoring station is UL Listed and 5-Diamond Certified, meaning it has passed rigorous safety standards and holds the highest accreditations a security company can achieve. We offer 24/7 alarm and video monitoring and maintain our certifications through regular training, logistics, and maintenance.

Vacation Watch and Patrol Services for Southern California Homes

Expertly trained and certified patrol officers can conduct scheduled check-ins at your property during your vacation, taking swift action if any threats arise. Armed response teams serve as a visible deterrent to opportunistic criminals in your neighborhood, helping keep your property safe.

Post Alarm is a leading provider of Patrol services in Southern California, offering round-the-clock response and patrol, and ensuring a total community presence. In addition to residential patrol, homeowners can sign up for Post Alarm’s Vacation Watch services, in which armed patrol officers guard their property while they’re away.

Vacation with Confidence: Post Alarm Has You Covered

Pairing your vacation security checklist with a professional security partner gives you and your family true peace of mind. As a third-generation, locally owned, family-operated company, Post Alarm monitors and patrols the same neighborhoods its team calls home. Since 1956, we have protected LA-area homes and businesses, serving communities from Beverly Hills and Pasadena to Santa Barbara and Malibu.

FAQs

What should I do if my home alarm is triggered while I’m on vacation?

If you receive an alert, don’t dismiss it as a false alarm. Review any available camera footage, then let your professional monitoring team assess the situation and coordinate with local authorities if needed. Make sure a trusted local contact, such as a neighbor or family member, has a key and is listed with your monitoring provider as someone who can respond on your behalf.

What should I do with my home’s Wi-Fi and smart devices before leaving for vacation?

Make sure all smart devices are updated and functioning before you leave. Software vulnerabilities in older firmware can create entry points for hackers seeking to remotely disable cameras or smart locks. It’s also wise to change your Wi-Fi password before a long trip and ensure two-factor authentication is enabled on any app connected to your home security system. For questions about your devices, contact your home security provider.

Is it safe to post my vacation dates on a private neighborhood app like Nextdoor?

While it is safer than posting when you’ll be away on a public platform, even private or neighborhood-restricted apps expose your absence to more people than you realize. If you want community support while away, it’s safer to reach out directly to one or two neighbors rather than broadcasting your plans to an entire network.

Can a burglar disable my home security system before breaking in?

Sophisticated burglars may attempt to cut power or jam wireless signals to disable basic security systems. Cellular-based monitoring systems with battery backup offer significantly stronger protection than those relying solely on landline or broadband connections. A professionally monitored system with a UL-listed central station adds another layer of resilience, since any sudden loss of communication can itself trigger an alert.

How Burglars Choose a Home in Seconds

Residential crime is a growing issue across Southern California communities, with recent local trends showing an increase in burglaries in the San Fernando Valley. Criminals move fast—both during the theft itself, working efficiently to minimize time inside, and in the moments before a break-in, deciding within seconds which homes are ideal targets.

What exactly does a vulnerable home look like? How do criminals decide so quickly which homes are worth the risk of getting caught? Understanding how burglars think and act helps you see your property as they would and identify weaknesses that need attention.

Let’s discuss the top vulnerabilities criminals look for in residential targets, along with how to strengthen your security measures and deter burglars.

Top Vulnerabilities Criminals Target

Some burglars have adopted advanced high-tech tactics to weaken home security, such as using WiFi jamming to disrupt WiFi-reliant security systems or planting small cameras to monitor residents’ daily routines. Others simply look out for security vulnerabilities to exploit. Here are some of the top concerns for burglars as they stalk residential neighborhoods.

Visibility and Lighting

Take a look at your property from the sidewalk. Are there areas of concealment someone could hide behind—tall trees, bushes, or a large wall or structure? Where is your outdoor lighting lacking? Burglars will scan properties for hidden areas and dark entry points, waiting for the perfect opportunity to enter the home.

Signs No One Is Home

No lights on inside, multiple packages on the porch, a long-empty driveway—these are all signs no one is home to get in a burglar’s way. Criminals are more likely to take advantage of a house that appears empty, especially if they can confirm the family is on vacation or there are other signs people will be away for a period.

Even if there isn’t a long trip planned, burglars may stake out a home and learn the residents’ routines—when they drive to work or school, when they return, and other schedules.

Easy Entry Points

While it’s true that many criminals target affluent properties with no or incomplete security systems, they are also opportunistic. According to James Lynch, a professor of criminology interviewed for a CNET article, less sophisticated burglars may look for unlocked doors and windows and break in wherever they can.

Burglars keep an eye out for and try open entry points, such as:

  • Unlocked backyard or pedestrian gates
  • Ground-floor windows
  • Sliding glass doors
  • Scalable second-floor balconies
  • Any doors with weakened or broken locks

Lack of Visible Security

Security cameras, doorbell cameras, and other visible signs of an alarm system can all deter criminals from targeting a property. KTVB7, a television station in Oregon, reported that of the 86 inmates it interviewed serving time for burglary, most would leave the property if an alarm system went off or if they saw a security camera. Likewise, the Urban Institute found that the 8,000 cameras placed throughout Chicago contributed to the approximate 12% reduction in crime rates.

Without clear security measures in place, burglars are more likely to consider the home unguarded and an apt target. Even just a security company lawn sign can help keep criminals away.

How to Deter Criminals and Strengthen Your Home Security

From simple property maintenance to smart home security products, there are numerous ways to prevent break-ins. Each strategy adds another layer of protection, fortifying your property.

Improve Exterior Lighting: Burglars prefer to operate in the shadows. Motion-activated lights can detect suspicious activity and deter intruders from crossing property lines.

Reinforce Doors and Windows: Having your entry points inspected and reinforced gives you peace of mind knowing all doors and windows are fortified against burglars.

Install a Smart Home Security System: From real-time notifications to video surveillance, smart locks, and remote system access, smart home security offers homeowners enhanced protection.

Set Up Visible Security Cameras: A home security technician can help identify the best locations to install cameras around your home to maximize coverage. Live video monitoring takes this security feature even further. Post Alarm’s Night Shield cameras detect threats and promptly alert live video monitoring agents for immediate verification and response.

Homeowner Vigilance: Along with adding security products to your property, simply keeping an eye out for suspicious activity helps you stay on top of potential threats. Check your alarm notifications and security footage regularly, and always be aware of your surroundings when you’re on or near your property.

Maintain Your Property: An unkept landscape can be a sign that no one is home and provide more places to hide on your property. Regular maintenance, whether done by you or a landscape professional, signals to criminals that the property is active.

Let Your Neighbors Know When You’re Away: If you’re going to be away from home for more than a couple of days, one of our top neighborhood safety tips is to ask a neighbor to look after your house and take in any packages that arrive on your porch.

Why Garages Are a Top Target for Residential Crime

Why Garages Are a Top Target for Residential Crime

Garage security is integral to a complete home security system. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, 9% of burglars break into homes through the garage. In recent years, LA County and Southern California communities have seen a sharp rise in garage break-ins, with factors such as neighborhood density and high property values contributing to higher crime rates.

Homeowners typically focus more on front-door security than on garage security, but there is good reason to invest in both. Below, we’ll discuss the best ways to fortify your whole property, including your garage door and other vulnerable entry points.

Why Criminals Target Garages Over Other Entry Points

Burglars target residential garages as entry points because they’re often easily accessible. Garages typically provide direct access to the inside of homes through connecting doors. Also, when approaching a garage door on the side or in the back of a house, criminals are less likely to attract neighbors’ attention. They are more likely to choose homes without floodlights and with low visibility.

Some burglars may target the garage itself for the valuables inside. Cars, power tools, electrical equipment, and other expensive items are all attractive to thieves. The California Highway Patrol reported that a vehicle was stolen in California every 2.94 minutes, with Los Angeles County recording the highest number of auto thefts in 2024. While car theft usually occurs on the street, an unlocked garage gives thieves an incentive to enter.

Criminals can also quickly identify old garage door entrances that lack security technology. While the latest smart garage door openers allow homeowners to monitor and access their garages directly from their smartphones, standard garage doors can be forced open in seconds by anyone.

Common Garage Door Vulnerabilities

Your risk of a garage break-in depends on the vulnerabilities within your security system. Check your garage door for the following weaknesses:

  • Accessible Emergency Release Cord: While this component of your garage is designed to protect you in an emergency, criminals aware of this device will seek to use it to their advantage.
  • Damaged Door Materials: Damaged panels and warped wood can make break-ins easier, particularly when this damage is noticeable.
  • Unlocked Windows and Side Door Entry: Complete garage security includes the windows and any side doors. Without adequate locks, criminals can get inside.

How to Strengthen Your Garage Door Security

There are many ways to increase garage security. The following measures range from simple, regular routines and habits to new investments, all of which will give you peace of mind and keep your property safe.

  • Upgrade Your Garage Door Opener: Automated garage door openers are sleek, quiet, and safer, featuring remote operation for improved security.
  • Secure the Emergency Release Mechanism: The best way to keep criminals from accessing your emergency release cord is to zip-tie it so it’s out of reach. In the event of an emergency, cut the tie to access it, then replace it later.
  • Use Smart Garage Features: Smart garage door systems have smartphone connectivity, so you can receive alerts whenever the garage door opens and check that it is closed and secure at any time.
  • Keep the Garage Closed: Always close and secure your garage door, even for a quick trip down the street. A few minutes is enough time for someone to get in.
  • Cover the Windows: Keep outsiders from seeing the valuables in your garage. A security film, curtains, or another type of opaque cover will get the job done.
  • Improve Exterior Security: Motion-activated lights enhance visibility and deter intruders from entering your property. Security cameras and video monitoring provide another layer of security; if a threat is detected, your local monitoring team will respond quickly by contacting law enforcement.
  • Keep the Opener Remote Out of Sight: Don’t leave your garage door opener remote visible in your car. If your car is unlocked, someone could easily use it to access your home. Store it in the glove compartment or center console until you need to use it.
  • Reinforce the Garage Door: If your garage door is damaged or appears weakened, it’s wise to spruce up its appearance and invest in repairs. Make sure to seal any gaps between panels or, if recommended by a specialist, replace the door altogether with a durable, break-in-proof model.
  • Lock the Interior Door: Even with all the garage security measures in place, it’s still wise to lock the door between your garage and home as you would any other exterior entry point.
  • Maintain Your Garage Door Maintenance: Simple maintenance makes a difference. Test your garage door’s features throughout the year and check for wear or damage. Regular inspections help you identify weaknesses before criminals can.

Other Vulnerable Entry Points on Residential Properties

Burglars may not give up just because your garage door is secured. To fully protect your property, evaluate other entry points that criminals may target. Consider these common locations:

  • Side Gates: Many wooden and steel gates have simple latches that allow anyone to access them. As with your garage door, floodlights, and video monitoring can improve security around that area.
  • Back Doors: Whether you have a regular hinged back door or sliding glass doors, make sure they have sturdy locks. Automated lighting in the backyard is also a plus.
  • First-Floor Windows: Don’t leave your windows (including small basement windows) unlocked, especially when you aren’t home. Keep in mind that window AC units are also frequently targeted entry points.
  • Second-Story Balconies: Don’t discount a criminal’s ability to climb up to your balcony. Install motion and glass break detectors there for added protection, and keep the balcony door locked at night and when you’re away.
  • Attached Structures: Other structures, like an attached guest house, may also benefit from increased security.

Copper Wire Theft: Why It’s Rising in Southern California and How to Protect Your Property

February 13th, 2026

Categories

The recent increase in copper wire theft has led to widespread outages and safety concerns across Southern California communities. AT&T reported 2,200 incidents in California in 2024, a sharp rise from 71 in 2021, according to CNN. Last year, more than 37,000 streetlight repair requests were made in Los Angeles, largely due to copper wire theft. One major crime site, the Sixth Street Bridge, has lost seven miles (38,000 feet) of copper wire over several years, totaling $2.5 million in damage.

Why are thieves targeting copper, and what does this mean for your property? Below, we’ll discuss the rise of copper wire theft in California, where thieves are stealing copper wire, and what you can do to protect your home or business.

Why Copper Wire Theft Is a Growing Problem

The primary reason copper wire theft has increased over the past few years is the consistent rise in copper prices. According to Fidelity, several growth industries—including electric vehicles, AI, data centers, and renewable energy—require massive amounts of copper. With demand high and copper deficits projected in 2026, the price has jumped to more than $13,000 per tonne in recent months.

In October 2025, Governor Newsom signed legislation in response to copper wire theft and vandalism. AB 476 is designed to strengthen theft prevention, hold the scrap metal industry accountable with greater penalties and reporting requirements, and protect infrastructure. However, since enforcing these new regulations takes time, criminals have continued to strike successfully.

How Copper Wire Theft Impacts Homes and Businesses

Copper wire theft is costly and poses safety risks for homeowners and businesses. A significant number of power outages in Los Angeles have been caused by copper wire theft, resulting in dark streets and safety concerns for residents. These crimes have also disrupted schools and essential services.

CNN reported more than 15,000 attacks nationwide on domestic communication networks from June 2024 to June 2025. With phone lines and internet connections down and emergency services disconnected, businesses and residents are increasingly vulnerable.

For homeowners, stolen copper may require not only replacing wire but also rebuilding entire systems, such as a damaged HVAC or irrigation system. This can total up to $10,000, depending on specific factors. Likewise, individual businesses have reported major losses, with some exceeding $100,000 in a single incident. Copper wire theft has left some buildings without power for extended periods.

Perhaps the most vulnerable properties, construction sites for new homes and home remodeling projects, are often targeted, with theft incidents creating additional expenses and delaying project timelines. This has been particularly evident on rebuilding sites affected by the 2025 Palisades and Eaton wildfires, according to a detective interviewed by CNN.

How Thieves Steal Copper Wire in Residential Areas

Knowing how thieves operate can help you better protect your property. Criminals have developed sophisticated methods to target homes and businesses across Southern California.

Copper theft, along with many other forms of criminal activity, typically occurs at night or on weekends, when suspicious activity is less noticeable. Copper used in residential properties includes wiring for air conditioners, outdoor electrical panels, and exterior light fixtures. Thieves may use bolt cutters or other tools to access the wires, then later burn off the insulation, leaving the bare copper wire for sale.

Along with residential properties, construction sites are especially vulnerable. Any exposed wiring during a renovation project can attract thieves, particularly on unmonitored properties.

How to Prevent Copper Wire Theft on Your Property

Even with copper theft incidents so prevalent, there are effective steps you can take to protect your property from copper thieves. A layered security approach that combines multiple strategies provides the best protection. Here are our top strategies:

  • Motion-sensor lights: Motion-detecting security lights are known to deter criminals. Install these devices around your most vulnerable outdoor areas.
  • Surveillance cameras with local alarm monitoring: A security camera system is not enough to deter property threats. While it’s important to capture suspicious activity, adding a fast-response local monitoring team can ensure law enforcement is dispatched to the property immediately upon threat detection. Night Shield, Post Alarm’s proprietary service, uses AI technology to detect potential threats and alert live video monitoring agents for immediate verification and response.
  • Temporary security for construction sites: Thieves targeting construction sites put valuable building and home materials at risk. From temporary construction monitoring and Patrol response to prewiring and permanent system installation, Post Alarm helps to secure your property and keep rebuilding projects on track.
  • Protection for your outdoor systems: Worried about your copper-filled outdoor systems? Use locked cages, enclosures, or fencing for air conditioning units, HVAC systems, or electrical panels. Make sure to secure all tools and ladders when not in use.

10 Holiday Safety Tips from Post Alarm

December 10th, 2025

Categories

The holidays bring joy, travel, gift-giving, and, unfortunately, a yearly spike in property crimes, porch thefts, and home accidents. Whether you’re packing your bags to visit family or preparing to host a full house, a few proactive safety tips can go a long way in keeping your home and loved ones protected.

Here are Post Alarm’s top recommendations to reduce risk, prevent crime, and maintain peace of mind throughout the season.

Holiday Safety Tips While Traveling

The holidays are a wonderful reason to spend some time away from home and reconnect with family or friends. Whether you are traveling across the neighborhood for the day or across the country for a week, an empty home can attract unwanted attention.

Strong practices before you leave can help deter burglars, protect your packages, and generally lower your chance of being targeted for a crime.

1. Secure Your Home Before Traveling

At Post Alarm, we preach the Rule of 5’s when it comes to alarming your security system. That is to say: always arm your system, whether you’re leaving your home for 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days, or 5 weeks. It only takes a few short moments for a crime to occur, and short trips away from home can increase your risk of encountering an intruder if a crime is in progress. Always remember, your alarm system only works when it’s activated.

Additionally, make sure all doors, windows, and any other entry points are securely locked when you leave the house. And if you’ve practiced using light timers with holiday decor, consider the same with smart lights inside your home. A place that appears occupied can often be a deterrent in itself.

2. Protect Your Holiday Deliveries

Whether receiving gifts from friends and family or purchasing items yourself, the holidays typically bring an excess of deliveries to doorsteps throughout the United States. And with it comes the inevitable uptick in package thefts.

The United States Postal Service reported that roughly 58 million packages were stolen last year, resulting in estimated losses of $5.2-16 billion. In Los Angeles alone, the number of reported package thefts nearly doubled in December 2023.

With increased porch pirate activity this time of year, it’s important to consider extra delivery measures to help prevent package theft:

  • Utilize package lockers for secure deliveries
  • Require signatures for all orders
  • Send deliveries to your workplace or a trusted neighbor if you know you will be away
  • Utilize doorbell cameras to keep an eye on packages during delivery windows

If you know you’re going to be away for an extended period of time, you might consider holding your mail and deliveries altogether to avoid visible piles outside.

3. Don’t Advertise an Empty Home

In our current social media world, it might be tempting to share an exciting upcoming trip. But advertising an empty home for an extended period of time is a sure way to increase your risk of a burglary while you’re away.

Even if your profiles are set to private or friends and family, it’s just not worth the risk. You might tell a trusted neighbor you’ll be away so they can keep an eye on your property and any package deliveries. After all, building safer communities often begins with simply maintaining better connections with your neighbors. Save travel photos and location-tagged posts for when you return.

4. Consider Live Video Monitoring

Upgrading your existing security system to include professionally designed camera systems and even live video monitoring, which add a strong layer of deterrence and provide crucial evidence should something happen while you’re away.

Plus, you get the added peace of mind and benefits that come with professionally monitored cameras, like:

  • Advanced analytics that provide enhanced detection for identifying and addressing potential security threats
  • Remote viewing options to watch live camera feeds and check in on your home from any smart device
  • Real-time alerts and push notifications let you take immediate action in the event of an intrusion or trespass

5. Vacation Watch Services

If your security company provides patrol services, consider inquiring about vacation watch. Beyond the visible deterrence and immediate response to alarm events, professional security patrol services often provide additional check-ins upon special request to verify that your home and property are secure while you are away.

6. Document Valuables Before You Leave

Finally, documenting your valuables before you leave helps you proactively protect their value. Quickly photograph important items (electronics, jewelry, tools) and store them in a secure cloud folder. While you shouldn’t be riddled with the anxiety that you’ll be robbed while away, it’s simple and incredibly useful if you ever need to file a police report or insurance claim.

Holiday Safety Tips While Hosting

There’s no place like home for the holidays. But when you’re hosting gatherings, there’s certainly “more” of everything. More people in the house, more cooking, more decor, more deliveries, and potentially more risk in general.

Use these tips to help keep gatherings safe, secure, and stress-free.

7. Stay Alert While Cooking

Holiday meal prep brings a major spike in kitchen fires. The American Red Cross sees an annual house fire spike of nearly 20% during the months of November and December.

Keep your kitchen safe this season by:

  • Never leaving cooking unattended
  • Keeping flammables (like towels, decorations, and loose clothing) away from burners
  • Use timers to stay on track, especially with added conversation and visiting
  • Test your fire alarm systems and replace any old batteries

8. Keep Decorations Safe

Holiday lighting, candles, and dry Christmas trees can all become hazards if left unchecked. Make sure the serene setting you’ve worked hard to build stays fire-free:

  • Keep Christmas trees at least 3 feet away from any heat sources
  • Inspect light strands for damage or faulty lights
  • Avoid overloaded outlets and using too many extension cords
  • Never plug an extension cord into another extension cord
  • Always unplug electronic decorations before bed or utilize timers
  • Never leave candles burning unattended or overnight

9. Watch for Follow-Home or Shopping-Related Theft

Thieves often watch shoppers leaving malls or boutiques with high-value items. Keep purchases out of sight, avoid leaving bags in your car, and stay aware of your surroundings — especially after dark.

Practice safe habits when arriving back home to guard against follow-home robberies:

  • Stay mindful of your surroundings throughout your journey when arriving home.
  • Review any alarm and video push notifications before pulling into your driveway to make sure there’s no criminal activity/trespassing.
  • Never remotely unlock your front door or disarm your system until you’re sure it’s safe to do so.
  • Don’t leave your garage door remote in your vehicle, even if you’re parked in your driveway
  • Park vehicles securely, hide valuables, and avoid leaving expensive purchases visible, especially overnight or if guests come and go.

10. Hide Gifts (and Break Down Packaging)

Don’t advertise all those brand new valuables! A pile of gift boxes — especially from big-ticket items — can reveal exactly what’s inside your home. Break down boxes for televisions, computers, jewelry, or any other high-value gifts and recycle them off-site.

At Post Alarm, we’ve provided protection for local communities for more than 60 years. And with that experience comes the knowledge that a security system is only as good as the people our customers trust to monitor it. We take that trust very seriously.

We believe our people make Post Alarm special, and it’s our pleasure to shine a light on the motivated, intelligent, compassionate team members that make up the Post Alarm Family and provide the best protection possible to our clients.

Our December Employee Spotlight is Salvador “Sal” Esqueda, Operations Manager. Sal is a dedicated leader who has spent the past eight years helping Post Alarm customers feel safe, supported, and understood. With a security career that began back in 2005, he discovered early on that protecting people—and building real relationships along the way—was more than just a job. From navigating evolving technology to making sure every technician gets home safely, his passion for service shows in the small moments and the big wins. Learn more about Sal’s story below!

How long have you worked for Post Alarm?

I’ve been with Post Alarm for eight years.

Were you in the security industry before joining Post?

Yes, I’ve been in the security industry since 2005.

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in security or public safety?

I was about 20 years old and looking to change careers. College wasn’t for me, so I got into the security industry—and I ended up really enjoying it. It’s not for everyone, but I love helping customers, protecting homes, and having work that changes day to day.

What has kept you at Post Alarm for so many years?

They’re simply a great company. The owners treat us well, the work environment is positive, and I’ve always liked the way the business is run. When they offered me the opportunity to join the team, it just felt like the right fit.

How do you build trust with customers during the installation process?

It starts from the very beginning. When I call to schedule their appointment, I listen to what they need and address any concerns. I always give them my direct phone number and email so they know they can reach me anytime. I want them to feel supported throughout the whole process.

What do you wish people understood before choosing a security system or security provider?

A lot of customers come from large companies like ADT, and the biggest difference they notice with Post Alarm is the personal attention. Since we’re family-owned, we’re relatable and invested in understanding their security needs. They’re not just another account number to us.

How have you seen the security industry change since you started—whether in technology or new types of threats?

It has changed a lot since 2005. Technology has advanced dramatically, especially with cameras. Features like Night Shield offer more protection for customers. I use it at home, and knowing Central Station will call me if a problem is detected there makes me feel secure.

As for threats like Wi-Fi jammers, we try to hardwire as much as possible—running wires for internet and radios—so customers have layers of protection that can’t be easily disrupted.

What has been the most rewarding part of your career?

Honestly, it’s the day-to-day work—knowing that customers feel safer and that our team completed a job well. I take pride in making sure installations go smoothly, customers feel secure, and my technicians finish the day safely. I always check in with my technicians at the end of the day to make sure they’re safe and on their way home. Those small wins add up.

Are there any customer situations that stand out?

There have been many. We often get calls from sales saying a customer was just burglarized and needs help immediately. Most of the time, I can rearrange the schedule or have technicians volunteer for a Saturday to get them secured quickly.

What makes the installation team at Post Alarm so strong?

We communicate really well and understand each other. I’m an installer at heart, so when technicians run into a difficult situation or a customer who needs extra guidance, I get it—I’ve been in their shoes. That shared experience strengthens our teamwork.

What does your role look like day-to-day?

Right now I’m mostly in the office. I manage the warehouse, schedule installations, oversee the installation department, supervise the service department, and support operations at our other branches. I’m also training an install coordinator who will take over some scheduling, which will let me get back out in the field more for site visits and job walks.

How does Post Alarm’s knowledge of the local market compare to big national providers?

It’s a huge advantage. With large corporations, customers often feel like a number. With us, customers know we’re local, we understand the area, and we’re committed to taking care of them personally.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

I love cooking. About once a month, I cook for the office—everyone loves my green pozole. It’s a fun way to bring everyone together. I also just enjoy spending time with my family.

How Security Patrol Services Prevent Crime in Southern California

Investing in a professionally monitored home security system is the first step toward adding a crucial layer of protection to your home. A triggered alarm system notifies central monitoring stations of a potential threat, who can then dispatch local police directly to the scene.

But what if there was an extra layer, bridging alarm systems and monitoring stations to local law enforcement? Security patrol services not only meet that need but also offer a range of additional benefits for safer communities and crime prevention.

The Benefits of Security Patrol Services

Residential property crimes continue to challenge cities like Los Angeles. In 2024 alone, the city reported over 14,000 burglaries. While that’s a 7% decrease from the previous year, the situation requires intentional approaches to continue in a positive direction.

And the most effective crime and burglary deterrents aren’t always new technology. The visibility, presence, and rapid response professional security patrol provides is a strategic, risk-reduction, and potentially life-saving investment.

Visibility

Patrol services from a professional home security company provide a clear, visible deterrence against potential break-ins and thefts. Beyond that, the peace of mind provided by regular patrols from trained, trusted officers helps residents feel safer, knowing help is always nearby.

In fact, studies show that visible security patrols, combined with coordinated community awareness, can significantly reduce opportunity-based crime. A study last year from the Altadena Sheriff’s Station found a 28% decrease in residential burglaries through a combination of proactive patrols, targeted investigations, and strong community partnerships.

Though this was not a private security company, and results may vary depending on property type, patrol frequency, visibility, and community coordination, the study shows the probably power of professional patrol services.

Immediate Response

Patrol services serve as a crucial link between your home security system and local monitoring agents. Beyond the obvious advantage of active patrol officers responding quickly to suspicious activities and threats, patrol services are often the first on the scene when an alarm is triggered.

Time is crucial during an emergency situation. When an alarm is triggered or suspicious behavior is detected, patrol officers can verify and respond in minutes, usually before local law enforcement arrives. This rapid verification reduces false alarms and ensures that real threats are handled fast.

Where Can Patrol Prevent Crime?

In neighborhoods or HOA communities in the L.A. region, selecting a professional patrol service provider is not just an additional cost but a purposeful investment that improves safety and prevents crime. Plus, security patrol services are flexible and effective in a range of settings, from residential neighborhoods to commercial complexes.

Commercial Properties

Protecting a place of business is often a full-time job itself outside of normal operations. Alarm systems, surveillance cameras, and access control systems each play an important role in securing commercial properties, but the after-hours security presence of patrol officers also helps fill crucial gaps.

Patrol services protect commercial properties through:

  • After-hours visibility that deters trespassing and theft.
  • Routine vehicle and foot patrols that prevent vandalism and transient activity.
  • Providing documentation of any incidents to help businesses stay compliant and proactive.

Communities

Community advantages of security patrol services include:

  • Consistent presence and deterrence for HOA and gated communities
  • Officers serve as trusted local points of contact for residential safety concerns
  • Easy integration with neighborhood watch groups or access control system technology for additional layers of security

Beyond just crime prevention, patrol services provide an array of quality-of-life benefits like reducing liability that, in turn, increases property values, decreases resident complaints, and generally increases a sense of safety.

Individual Homes

At Post Alarm, we believe protecting a single home creates a ripple effect that better secures entire neighborhoods. And patrol services serve as a crucial part in keeping individual homes, and in turn entire communities, safer.

Individual residents are made safer by patrol services through:

  • Fast response to alarm activations
  • Vacation Watch and drive-by checks for added peace of mind when owners are away
  • Patrol escorts for safe entry and exit from home
  • Coordination with local law enforcement and community safety groups

10 Community Halloween Safety Tips

October 29th, 2025

It’s that time of year again! Long summer days lead to dark autumn evenings, and the cobwebs and jack-o-lanterns begin to emerge as anticipation for Halloween night grows. And what’s not to love? The season offers children and communities the chance to connect over fun scares, costumes, and, of course, candy!

Whether you’re planning to accompany the trick-or-treaters in your home or welcome costumed candy collectors at your front door, consider these Halloween safety tips from Post Alarm.

1. Carefully Supervise Young Children While Trick-or-Treating

While it may go without saying, keeping a close watch on younger children while trick-or-treating is especially important on Halloween. The perceived freedom of the night can bring you and your neighbors a sense of security. That’s not a bad thing; Halloween should be fun and safe for everyone.

But combine large crowds, costumes, and the excitement of running house to house, and it can get easy to lose track of your trick-or-treaters. However, close supervision doesn’t have to be overly intrusive. It can be as simple as adding a distinguishing marker on your child’s costume to help them stand out more.

2. Consider Reflective Tape or Flashlights

Pedestrian protection is a general Halloween safety concern (more on that later!), especially when combining an evening activity with dark costumes. While more people are walking in neighborhoods on Halloween, that doesn’t mean there’s a total absence of vehicles.

Just adding reflective tape to a costume or carrying a flashlight can make the difference in standing out to a driver and making your presence known. Depending on your costume, you might even have the opportunity to add a light-up accessory. Think light sabers for “Star Wars” characters or “magic” wands for princesses. A little creativity goes a long way towards Halloween safety.

3. Stay in Familiar Neighborhoods

You might consider setting some basic parameters for older children going trick-or-treating alone for the first time. Explain what streets and neighborhoods they should stick to and what to do if they get lost or separated from their group.

Before the festivities even begin, it may be wise to help them create a “buddy system” of at least one other friend or attendee whom they’re each responsible for to prevent walking alone and make sure everyone gets home safely.

4. Follow Community Guidelines

Depending on the day of the week, many communities choose a weekend day for Halloween festivities to generally take place. Often, there are set times for trick-or-treating. Do your research and make sure your Halloween plans align with any “officially” sanctioned days, times, and even designated trick-or-treat routes.

5. Prioritize Pedestrian Safety

As we mentioned earlier, an increase in pedestrian traffic doesn’t necessarily mean it’s automatically safer. Treat Halloween like you would any other day. That means following the rules of the road and obeying any traffic signs and signals. Stick to sidewalks when possible and try to cross streets at designated crosswalks and popular intersections.

Just because there may be fewer vehicles on the road, always be cautious of drivers in every direction.

6. For Drivers: Stay Vigilant on the Road

On the other hand, drivers need to be extra vigilant on a day like Halloween. Keep a watchful eye out for pedestrian groups in larger numbers and in dark costumes, as more foot traffic may spill onto the street in unexpected ways. Be extra alert for small children, who may be harder to spot.

Remember: Slower speeds save lives! Don’t be afraid to be late if it means arriving at your destination safely. And if you’re attending an adult Halloween party, never drink and drive.

7. Discuss Plans with Neighbors

Another great aspect of Halloween celebrations is the chance to connect with your community. Neighbors join each other in handing out candy or accompanying children while trick-or-treating, while generally keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity.

If you’re not going to be home for Halloween, let your neighbors know so they can help keep your house undisturbed. And if you decide to leave a “take one” candy bowl out, they can help any would-be greedy trick-or-treaters stick to the honor system!

8. Consider Your Home Security

While Halloween is generally a time for safe, spooky fun, it also traditionally inspires some mischief. What might seem like harmless pranks can quickly turn into a security risk. If nothing else, it is a good reminder to consider investing more in your layered security.

Proper lighting for driveways and walkways, doorbell cameras and video monitoring systems to keep track of activity while you’re out of the house, and of course, automatic locks and an active alarm system all add up to better safety and security well beyond Halloween night.

9. Inspect Treats Before Eating Them

The idea of nefarious criminals tampering with Halloween candy is generally considered a myth. But it doesn’t hurt to add an extra layer of safety when counting your Halloween spoils at the end of the night.

Here are some Halloween safety tips to consider regarding candy:

  • Signs of tampering might include tiny pinholes and tears in the wrapper or an unusual appearance or discoloration in the candy itself.
  • If it looks like a wrapper has already been opened, just throw it away. It’s not worth the risk!
  • Always check labels and ingredient lists for potential allergens.
  • Be aware of choking hazards with small, hard candies and anything with chewing gum.

10. Give Trunk-or-Treat Alternatives a Try

Over the decades, trick-or-treat alternatives like “trunk-or-treating” have grown in popularity as a safer, more controlled way to celebrate. As the name suggests, trunk-or-treating usually takes place in large, open areas, where parked vehicles serve as doorsteps.

And much like homes that go all-out in haunted house decorations, there’s a ton of creative potential in creating spooky scenes to keep the festivities active. Activities like trunk-or-treating are especially safe options for younger children and anyone living in an area where large-scale trick-or-treating doesn’t occur.

Keep a close eye on your local community events, as there may be a great trick-or-treating alternative near you. You might even consider organizing a similar event with friends and neighbors.

Protecting the Neighborhoods We Call Home Since 1956

Halloween Night should be a time to create memories that last a lifetime. And with the right approach to safety, you can ensure your only scares come from cavity worries!

How to Protect Yourself Against Cell and WiFi Jammers

September 23rd, 2025
Share:

Categories

As security systems grow more advanced and complex, so too do the tools designed to bypass them. New tools are constantly emerging to target and circumvent modern alarm systems and video surveillance. Recently, the rise of signal jammers, such as cell and WiFi jammers, has become an increasing concern for home and business owners.

As the name suggests, these devices intentionally create interference to disrupt or block cell and wireless signals within a targeted area. For home and business owners, it’s usually an attempt by burglars to disable security systems by blocking alarm signals and preventing outside communications.

Since 2021, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has seen a roughly 830% increase in signal jammer seizures. And locally, Los Angeles leaders, law enforcement, and other security experts warn of an increase in burglars using WiFi jammers to break into homes in the last year.

Thankfully, there are steps you can take to reduce your system’s vulnerability and protect yourself from cell and WiFi jammers.

How Do Cell and WiFi Jammers Work?

Cell and WiFi jammers are illegal devices that disrupt a security system’s communications capabilities. With the security system effectively shut down, intruders can enter compromised facilities like jewelry stores, financial institutions, and even your home undetected.

Cell jammers emit electromagnetic signals on the same frequencies as mobile phones, disrupting communication to cell towers. Meaning any phones within its range are unable to make emergency calls while blocking any outside public safety communications.

Similarly, WiFi jammers transmit powerful radio frequency signals on the same bands as local networks – like 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz – creating enough digital noise to make it impossible for wireless devices to communicate with a router or internet access point.

This past summer saw two high-profile instances of WiFi jammers. In June, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported the use of jamming devices in several Vermont bank robberies. And again in California, jamming devices were recovered in an attempted jewelry store robbery in La Verne.

Are Cell and WiFi Jammers Legal?

No, both cell and WiFi jammers are illegal to own and operate. According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), “federal law prohibits the operation, marketing, or sale of any type of jamming equipment that interferes with authorized radio communications, including cellular and Personal Communication Services (PCS), police radar, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).”:

The use of a phone jammer, GPS blocker, or other signal jamming device designed to intentionally block, jam, or interfere with authorized radio communications is a violation of federal law. There are no exemptions for use within a business, classroom, residence, or vehicle.

Even local law enforcement agencies don’t have the independent authority to use jamming equipment, though federal law enforcement agencies may be authorized in some instances.

How Do You Know If Someone Is Using a Jammer?

Obviously, losing cell or WiFi connection may be an initial sign that a jammer is in place nearby. However, a variety of factors cause signal interference. Faulty equipment, local network maintenance, and physical obstructions that aren’t nefarious could all be factors causing bad connections.

However, if you’ve confirmed multiple devices or phones are affected, and your residence or business is potentially at risk as a target, you may be in the vicinity of a jammer. And while both cell and WiFi jammers operate similarly, there are a few distinguishing factors to be aware of between them.

Signs Someone Is Using a WiFi Jammer

  • Bad signal quality and disconnections: Your Wi-Fi signal strength may significantly drop or disappear altogether, even when you are near your router. Additionally, any WiFi-enabled devices will repeatedly disconnect and attempt to reconnect to the network.
  • High latency/packet loss and reduced bandwidth: Even if you manage a connection, you’ll notice your speeds are noticeably slower, along with delays in data transmission. Data packets fail to reach their destination, again leading to interruptions and slow performance.
  • Wired connections work: Jammers only affect wireless devices. Any computers or smart devices connected directly to the router with an Ethernet cable (like a TV or gaming system) will continue to function normally.

Signs Someone Is Using a Cell Phone Jammer

  • Loss of service on multiple devices: If multiple phones suddenly lose service in an area where reception is typically good, a jammer may be present.
  • Signal fluctuations: Much like devices affected by WiFi jammers, your phone’s signal strength may jump erratically, rapidly changing between full bars and no service.
  • Relocation restores service: Most jammers have limited ranges in a designated area around their placement. Depending on its power, it can span from a few feet to a few hundred feet. But if your cellular service returns to normal once you move away from a specific location (like a potential target building), a jammer may be operating nearby.

In both cases, you may notice rapid battery drain in affected devices and phones. Trying to re-establish a connection consumes much more power than usual. And since jammer devices have a limited range, it’s important to keep an eye out for any suspicious-looking devices with antennas in the area. Jammers can be as small as a handheld device, though some are more complex.

Protect Yourself Against Cell and WiFi Jammers

When it comes to protecting your home or business, the most effective strategy is a layered approach to your home security. First, start with strong outer defenses. Perimeter lighting, fences or gates, and video surveillance deter threats before they reach your doors. Add intrusion alarms, sensors, and monitoring to create multiple points of protection. Combining these layers greatly reduces the chances of being singled out as a target. And if one layer fails, others are still in place to safeguard your property.

For the alarm system itself, many professional security providers will recommend hardwired connections. These systems don’t rely solely on cellular or WiFi signals, making them less vulnerable to interference. However, they do come with higher installation costs since hardwiring requires more labor and can be more complex.

That said, whether a system is wired or wireless, it can still be hard-lined to your internet. The advantage is that most modern alarm panels will immediately recognize when communication is lost and report that event as a potential intrusion to your central monitoring station. Instead of dismissing a simple outage, the loss of signal transmits to monitoring operators, who treat it with the same urgency as an active break-in.

As always, if you suspect a threat, contact the proper authorities. The use of cell phone and WiFi jammers is illegal, and anyone deploying them could pose an immediate danger.
